About Us
Our objective is to train pastors with the skills to interpret God’s Word faithfully. “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will be qualified to teach others” (2 Tim. 2:2).
Burundi Mission is unique in that it is an initiative of a prominent leader in Burundi, Ruben Safari, to meet the need of his own people by taking hands with churches of Jesus Christ from South Africa and VCI (Veritas College International.) |
Who are we?
We, with our supporting church, Wapadrant, have formed a Christian Mission called Burundi Mission. Burundi Mission’s central focus is the equipping of the Church of Jesus Christ in Burundi, Africa. The purpose of Burundi Mission is to provide Christ centred and God honouring theological training to meet the enormous need of untrained pastors in Burundi and central Africa.
Our history
While studying in South Africa, Ruben Safari met Tim van Aarde and a close friendship developed. He shared with Tim the urgent need for Theological training in Burundi and that there was no training program for pastors in Burundi as a result of the 14 year war, 1990-2005. As you may be aware the war in Burundi is closely connected with genocide that took place in Rwanda. Burundi and Rwanda are sister countries, both have the same ethnic groups, Tutsis and Hutu, and both countries were affected by the same political problem, the difference being that in Rwanda a genocide took place over a period of 1 month while in Burundi the conflict continued for 14 years. The result is that over 300 000 people lost their lives in Burundi. The traumatic events of Rwanda have overshadowed the equally traumatic civil war in Burundi.
